Team Playne
Clare leads the team, taking responsibility for strategy, creativity, and design. Directly involved with every client project, Clare responds enthusiastically to the most challenging and complex brief. Her experience over 30 years has enabled a deep understanding of how to build brands by making the most of the creative and technological opportunities. Clare is a graduate of Nottingham Trent University (BA Hons) and currently Chair of the International Society of Typographic Designers.
Simon guides the company’s growth and helps build its organisational and operational capability. To this task Simon brings more than 20 years’ director-level experience in marketing, digital and e-commerce roles at leading UK retailers, including Sainsbury’s, Homebase, Wickes, Travis Perkins, and Jessops. He is an alumnus of INSEAD and the Institute of Directors. His energy and commitment are reflected in his wider activities, from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for a cancer charity to co-founding a performance arts group to producing activist documentaries and live broadcasts.
Ben’s career began with a practical working experience of print design, from gifts and souvenirs to documents and forms. He now leans heavily into design for web and online applications, building expertise in user experience and the potential of digital design platforms. Ben has developed a broad skillset that supports the team’s technical capability across brand identity and communications. He has a BA in illustration from University of Portsmouth.
Cosima is a versatile conceptual designer with a wealth of experience and knowledge gained from working in the cultural sector with national museums, arts and heritage organisations and publishers. Familiar with presenting information in a clear and inspiring way, Cosima is at home designing for print, packaging and exhibitions, but can equally turn her hand to any creative challenge. Cosima has a BA (Hons) in graphic arts and design from Leeds Metropolitan University.
Jim works on the strategic and consultative aspects of projects, bringing a career’s worth of experience in the creation of brands, narratives and messaging for organisations and businesses. A leading figure in the design industry for many years, Jim has a track record which includes public sector, arts and culture, placemaking, regeneration and development initiatives. He holds an MA in design writing criticism from the University of Arts London.
A younger member of our team, Jem is driven by a passion for continuous learning and a strong desire to communicate clients’ messages to make a meaningful impact. With a solid foundation in design education (BA in graphic design from Hastings University Centre) and a keen eye for detail, Jem has swiftly transitioned into the professional realm working alongside other team members.
Our development team embrace a variety of programming languages and frameworks, adapting seamlessly to the demands of diverse projects. Whether optimising code for performance, architecting scalable systems, or troubleshooting intricate issues, they find fulfilment in the intricate dance of logic and creativity.
Rosie plays a crucial role in overseeing various aspects of the company’s financial management to ensure effective budgeting, staged payments, and accurate reporting.
Chief morale officer and four-legged genius, Giallo is a key member of the team. He is a keen advocate of the ‘walk and talk’ meeting and is always on hand to provide a warm welcome to clients and visitors.
